FAQ

What it is and what it ain't.

What should I expect to read on The Diffraction?

News and features about live music, told from the perspective of fans, bands, promoters, and venue manager/owners. More features than news. A lot more fun stuff than palid stuff.

What will I not read on the Diffraction?

You definitely will not read any album/song reviews. You likely will not read individual concert reviews, unless they're aggregated from somewhere else. I won't be critiquing bands. If Creed is the biggest touring act in the world one day, I will cover it with the same amount of diligence as a My Bloody Valentine reunion.

The goal of this website is not to try to critique bands and their sounds, though it will inevitably happen sometimes.

Can I contribute to the Diffraction?

Hopefully, someday. Right now, this is a one-person shop. I don't have the resources to hire or pay writers right now, so it's best to save your pitch for a publication that does. Please do read, and please check back to see if that changes. We will do interviews and ask for suggestions, but don't yet have the infrastructure to take paid-for pitches. We'd love to eventually feature essays.

What if I just want you to cover something?

I'd love guidance on what's important to you as readers. Please send your ideas for things for me to cover in the contact form here.

What gives you the right?

I am an avid concertgoer, a journalist, and a keen observer of the complicated dynamics that make concerts so important for all the above parties. And I didn't really see a nimble, modern publication trying to make sense of this all. So I dove in. Although I consider myself a fan of diverse music, I am aware of my biases and will do my best to cast a wide net regardless.
